Late Saturday morning roundup

Sorry, guys; my front yard was Code Orange and I had to get it out of control as soon as possible. My back yard is still impassible, but it's more hidden from view, so I can afford a blogging break.

The theme of this morning's roundup, at least for the beginning, is "logic that makes my head hurt." Exhibit A: What's to keep a society that abides student loans from turning genocidal? The Khmer Rouge did deliberately go after Cambodia's educated.

Next, we have a commenter on a Post story on Sandra Fluke's convention speech
Her motivation in life at this point seems to be to make sure that women have sex without taking proper precautions beforehand to make sure they don't get pregnant. If there's an "oops"--a preborn woman or man is created--then she believes women should be able to take an eraser and simply erase the "oops"--nevermind that the oops is a preborn human being. The choice to have sex should be made with the full knowledge that one's actions can result in consequences--perhaps an unplanned pregnancy. If someone doesn't want to take the risk of getting pregnant, then don't have sex. If the person has sex and doesn't want it to result in pregnancy, then use birth control. If one cannot get birth control, then don't have sex. If one cannot afford to buy birth control or go to the local public health clinic, etc., then one certainly can't afford afford a baby. Don't have sex...
Huh? We'd better move on before we get a little dumber.

What have you done with your toothbrush lately? Did you know that they can be used to repair international space stations?

People are saying no to milk.

Ewww. Mite-feces in pores: gross.

Gail Collins has a convention quiz for us.

Newsflash: men do give a $hit about intelligence.
Further, it found that the top few most desired traits were shared by both men and women: most people first look for intelligence, kindness and sense of humor, even before men mention beauty or women mention wealth and status.
In education, grit matters.

In response to questions about how I manage to stay sane in spite of my mom, I'll share a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “All the water in the world cannot drown you unless it gets inside of you.” Focusing on--or even just being aware of--all of the love and friendship that I have in my life, keeps the water out.
